Lockup

An agreement between investment bankers and the companies that they bring public. This agreement restricts the resale of shares owned by founders, employees, and venture capitalists immediately after the IPO. A lockup typically lasts for 180 days but can last for a shorter or a longer period. For details, see the section Pre-IPO: Going Public.
