Alan (now retired) was a fee-based Certified Financial Planner® practitioner at Abacus Wealth Partners in Westlake Village, California. Previously, he was President of Critical Capital Management Inc. He is the co-author of Your Employee Stock Options (Harper Business, 2001) and the author of Financial Self-Confidence for the Suddenly Single: A Woman's Guide (Lowell House, 3rd edition).

He is the founder of the San Fernando Valley chapter of the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals. He is the Vice President of the Ventura County Chapter of the Financial Planning Association. He has also served as a Mentor at the Financial Planning Association's residency program. He was the 2003 recipient of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association's prestigious Harmon Ballin community service award. He serves as an expert witness in cases involving stock options.

Alan received his undergraduate degree from Stanford and his MBA from New York University.
 
An experienced Himalayan trekker, Alan has a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoys meeting the people of the countries he's trekked through. He has been married to the same woman for 49 years. He is a stereotypical grandfather, claiming his two grandchildren are "the most amazing, most beautiful, most intelligent grandkids in the whole wide world."
