Direct Purchase Plan

A type of employee stock purchase plan (ESPP). This type of plan has payroll deductions, but purchases are usually just at the market price without any discount. You buy the stock without paying any commission, so you save on this expense and have opportunities to purchase company stock at regular intervals. This is also called an open-market purchase plan. For information about other types of ESPPs, see a related FAQ.
