Employment Taxes
The types of taxes triggered by employee compensation, such as the exercise of nonqualified stock options or the vesting of restricted stock/RSUs. Employment taxes include federal income tax, state income tax (if any), Social Security and Medicare (i.e. FICA taxes), and federal unemployment tax. These taxes require payroll withholding. Companies must adhere to rules and deadlines for making deposits of withheld employment taxes.
