Transferable Stock Option (TSO)

Traditionally, an option that may be transferred by the optionholder, generally only to:

  • a family member
  • a trust, limited partnership, or other entity for the benefit of family members
  • a charity

Some companies have set up TSO programs that let employees sell stock options to institutional investors or securities firms. Microsoft and Google, for example, have set up such programs (see a related FAQ).
