Taxable Moment
The time when taxable income is recognized by a taxpayer and is taxed by the appropriate jurisdiction, such as a country, state, or province. Depending on the tax laws of the jurisdiction, this can occur at either grant or vesting for restricted stock or restricted stock units, upon the exercise of stock options, or at the sale of shares acquired from equity awards.
