Totalization Agreement
An agreement between two countries to prevent cross-border employees from paying double social tax. A totalization agreement coordinates the payment of social taxes as well as the receipt of benefits. It assigns social taxes to one country and exempts both the cross-border employee and the employer from paying social taxes in the other country. For details on social taxes in specific nations, see the Global Tax Guide elsewhere on this website.
